My passion for working with stained glass started after I attended a weekend workshop in leaded light techniques as a birthday present from my son. That was 10 years ago and what started as a keen hobby making stained-glass mirrors and windows for family and friends, has developed into a modest business designing and creating bespoke pieces for individual commissions.
Each piece is designed in complete collaboration with the client to suit the needs of the space, light and location. From traditional Edwardian or Arts and Crafts to contemporary abstract and geometric styles, I have made a range of leaded glass windows, door panels and mirrors to create unique pieces that will be enjoyed for years.
My favourite part of the design process is in choosing the colours and textures of the glass to provide sufficient privacy and light but also to ensure that the colours chosen sing together and complement the decor and style of the location. Many of my clients have also found this a fascinating process and have enjoyed coming along to my glass supplier to select appropriate shades and textures of glass for the project.
Each commission starts with a visit to the site for the location of the piece. Careful measurements are taken and initial designs are drawn up based on discussions with the client. Once the final design is agreed, the glass is chosen and a final coloured design made to scale is given to the client for approval. The piece is then hand cut, leaded and soldered in my studio.
Regular photos are sent to the client to show work in progress. The completed glass panel or window is then delivered to the client and fitted or glazed as appropriate.
